BCR to Attend Kansas, Oregon/Washington
and Montana Library Conferences
BCR staff are looking forward to participating in three state library conferences in April:
the Kansas Library Tri-Conference and the Oregon/Washington and Montana Library
Association annual conferences.
The Kansas Library Tri-Conference, a joint conference of the Kansas Library Association
(KLA), Kansas Association of School Librarians (KASL) and Kansas Association for
Educational Communications and Technology (KAECT), is scheduled for April 3-5 in
Wichita. Rosario Garza, manager of Bibliographic Systems & Services (BS&S), and
Linda Gonzalez, member services librarian, will represent BCR at the conference. The
two will present the "BCR Network Update" set for 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 3.
There you will hear the latest about OCLC, FirstSearch, SilverPlatter and other reference
database services; learn what's new on the Internet and World Wide Web; and find out
what new hardware and software is of interest to libraries.
The Oregon Library Association/Washington Library Association Annual Conference is
scheduled for April 17-19. Dave Brunell, BCR's director, and Ellen Fox, manager of
BCR's Research & Development (R&D), will join Washington librarians in Portland.
The two will present "Evolving Nature of Library Network
Services" from 4-5:15 p.m. on Friday, April 19.
Jim Hensinger, manager of BCR's Internet & Database Services (IDS), will travel to the
Montana Library Association Annual Conference April 24-26 in Great Falls. Please
attend "Cost-Effective Acquisition and Use of E-book Collections," which he will
present at 2:45 p.m., Thursday, April 25. He will discuss the factors impacting the cost
of acquiring online electronic books and several methods used to expand their use in
academic and public libraries. Hensinger will also demonstrate the Ariel/Prospero
software at the Interlibrary Loan Interest Group Interlibrary Loan Unlimited at 4:30 p.m.
that same day.
Stop by BCR's booth in the Exhibits Area at all three library conferences and put your
name into a drawing to win a Palm m105 Handheld PDA. Introduce yourselves and get
acquainted with BCR and the products and services we offer member libraries, including
group purchases, discounts on numerous reference databases, consortial purchases of
e-books, access to the latest in
library training — both distance learning and classroom sessions — and OCLC products
and services.
